2nd Lt. Henry W. Benham U.S. Army, letter to wife Libby, April 28, 1863. Difficult to read but short touching letter. “I go to be under fire as I expect in laying these bridges from 2 o’clock till into tomorrow and of course may be hit and I can only bid my own darling good bye—to yourself—to my dear daughter Lizzy and sweet baby Lillian and my own little treasured son Henry, if any thing happens to me, I am ---------, Yours for ever, H.W. Benham.”
