Facsimile
of an anonymous plan of Dover Harbour, England, 1532
Some
of the earliest town plans were drawn in the process of planning fortifications.
This plan of Dover, drawn about 1532, was made to set out the way in which a
possible inland port would have been constructed. The detail shows not only the
existing harbor, but also, on the right, Dover Castle, high on its cliffs.
The plan comes from the collection preserved at Hatfield House in
England, and was reproduced in the Collection of maps and plans from Hatfield
House
edited by R.A. Skelton.
