Lucinio, Plan of Rome, 1557
By
the middle of the sixteenth century, engraved plans existed for many oif the
greater cities of western Europe. This rare engraving shows Rome and was
produced about i557, with an exceptionally complete key-table referring to the
various sites.
The enlargement, which shows the area near the Castle Sant’Angelo
(upper right), shows not only the numbering-system but also the high degree of
detail that was achieved.
