Cartographic Connections, a grant funded project of Special Collections and the
Center for Greater Southwestern Studies and the History of Cartography, is training Texas
teachers to use historic maps in the classroom. Saxon describes the major objectives of
the project and the progress made in the first year's sessions.

Manuscripts Archivist, Shirley Rodnitzky, introduces recently produced descriptive
finding aids for a variety of archival, manuscript, and photograph collections preserved
in Special Collections. The collections include the Communications Workers of America,
Local 6201, Fort Worth, Texas Records; the Geo. E. Dilley & Son Founders and
Machinists Records; the Fort Worth Star-Telegram Collection; and the A. C. Greene
Papers.

Letters by Texas hero, Sam Houston; a copy of the Texas Declaration of Independence;
and a rare 16th century map, are among the items on display in the current exhibition in
Special Collections. The exhibition celebrates the 25th anniversary of the original gift
as well as the continuing donations of long time UTA supporters, Jenkins and Virginia
Garrett.
