Over 70 historic maps are available on this site; there are several ways to locate the map you want:

Keyword	Single words only, please. Finds the word in the following fields: Title, Author, Publisher, City of Publication, and other fields.
Date Range	between and

Railroad maps (keyword search on "rail")
Road maps (keyword search on "highway" instead of "road" because the latter would have pulled up railroad maps, too)
Texas maps (keyword search on "texas")
Mexico maps (keyword search on "ico" to capture non-standard spellings like Mejico
Maps by Austin (keyword search on "austin". Notice that the database doesn't know the difference between the city of Austin and Stephen F. Austin.)
Maps by Burr (keyword search on "burr")
Military maps (keyword search on "military". You also might want to try "army", "corps", etc.)
Maps published in Philadelphia (keyword search on "phil")
Maps from 1500 to 1600 (date range search)
Maps from 1600 to 1700 (date range search)
Maps from 1700 to 1800 (date range search)
Maps from 1800 to 1900 (date range search)
Maps from 1900 to 2000 (date range search)

general
- You can search by keyword or date range, not both. Trying to search on both criteria will return unexpected results.
by keyword
- The keyword search disregards upper and lower case; they are seen as the same.
- Wildcards (Mex*) are not supported, but you can use a root portion of a word to find all the variations: mex would find "Mexico", "Mexican", "Tex-Mex", etc.
- Some maps have odd or archaic spelling (e.g. Guatimala). A search for Guatimala will not find maps that spell it Guatemala, and vice versa. You could, however, search for "guat" and find both, since it appears in both versions.
by date
- Search from earliest to latest. (e.g. 1920 to 1940 rather than 1940 to 1920)
- Select "Date Range" search so the server knows what you want it to do.
- Make sure you have both dates in your range in the form. If you want to find maps in a particular year then put that date in both blanks. For example, you can use "between 1900 and 1900" to find only those maps from 1900.
- Some maps have approximate ("circa") dates, so you may want to cast your net a little wider.
