Introduction

JSTOR provides full-text access to more than 300 scholarly journals offering more than 886,000 full length articles going back to 1838. Here are the subject areas addressed: African American Studies, African Studies, Anthropology, Archeology, Asian Studies, Botany, Ecology, Economics, Education, Finance, Geography, History, Language & Literature, Latin American Studies, Mathematics, Middle East Studies, Philosophy, Political Science, Population Studies, Slavic Studies, Sociology, and Statistics. Updated frequently, JSTOR covers important research articles, reviews, opinion pieces, and other items published in key journals.

Searching

A truncation symbol in JSTOR is a plus sign (+), and when this symbol is put at the end of a root word, the database will be searched for the singular and plural form of a word at the same time.

Two Boolean operators that are important in finding information are AND and OR. The AND is used to connect two different concepts and the OR is used between concepts that are synonymous. Here is an example:

.......[racism ]
OR.....[racist+]
AND....[policy ]

Using these search words and limiting the search to the article title in sociology or social science journals should be an effective way to look for articles about racial prejudice a public policy responses.
