Employee Recognition Committee

Awards Committee Minutes, August 13, 1993

Members present: Dendra Alford, Gerald Saxon, Betty Strmiska, Jim Wellvang, and Shirley Sheets, Chair

Nominations for the Bright Ideas Award were reviewed and discussed. It was unanimously decided that Diana Hines in ISS and Carmela Baty in Administrative Services will be the next recipients.

Further discussion of an appreciation pin to be presented to Bright Ideas Award recipients resulted in accepting a design from Brown Industries in Swarthmore, Pennsylvania. A three/quarter inch in diameter, gold-tone round pin having an open book and torch in the center was selected. "UTA Libraries" will appear at the top of the pin and "Bright Idea," at the bottom. Twenty-four pins are to be ordered so that receipt can be early in September. It was also decided to give pins to all previous recipients of the Bright Ideas Award.

Two revisions were recommended for award procedures. The first is to include a copy of the Newsletter announcement on the display with recipients' photographs. This will let everyone know the reason for the award. The second is to recognize the year's Bright Ideas Award recipients and announce known future recipients at the spring reception prior to the presentation of the STAR Award.

The Chair thanked Jim Wellvang and Dendra Alford for their work on the committee. Election of two new members to serve in Jim's and Dendra's places was discussed. Volunteers and nominations of staff to be placed on the ballot will again be asked for over the E-mail. Ballots will be distributed to staff before the end of August.
