Employee Recognition Awards Committee Minutes, January 19, 1994Four members attended: Leveta Hord, Gerald Saxon, Darrell Wyatt, and Shirley Sheets. Five nominations for the Bright Ideas Award were considered. One nominee was ineligible because of his position. Another nomination was returned to the nominator for resubmission for the STAR Award. The other three nominees were approved and will receive the Bright Ideas during January, February, and March. Leveta Hord agreed to prepare Newsletter articles about award recipients. Betty Strmiska, who was serving her second year on the Awards Committee, resigned in October 1993. Since the count of ballots in the last election was discarded, it was decided to choose another classified member from those who names appeared on the ballot. Bonnie Lindly was selected and will be asked to complete Betty's term. [Bonnie agreed.] The Awards Committee guidelines include no method for filling a vacancy. Shirley promised to draft a statement for filling a vacancy and present it at the next Library Advisory Forum meeting before adding it to the guidelines. [The following was accepted by LAF at its January 24th meeting: "When a vacancy occurs on the Awards Committee, the professional or classified staff member receiving the second highest number of votes on the ballot of the last election will be chosen to complete the term. A special election will be held only if all those on the ballot are unable to serve." This has been added to the guidelines as the third paragraph of Section C. Committee Membership.] A regular meeting time and place for the Awards Committee was agreed upon, the first Tuesday of each month at 8:30 in Shirley's office. Shirley will notify members in advance if there is no business to conduct and a meeting is cancelled. |
