Employee Recognition Committee

Employee Recognition Committee Minutes, October 21, 1994

All members were present. No Bright Ideas Award nominations had been submitted for consideration.

Carleen and Leveta shared what they found through their research on recognition of teams, Carleen from 1001 Ways to Reward Employees and Leveta from her reading appropriate books at Barnes and Noble's new store. Recognition is appropriate: when the mission and goals set by a team are achieved; when great strides have been made on an on-going project or goal; when level of performance has been raised in a department or area of service due to teamwork. Whoever the team reports to should initiate the nomination which should be based on participation of every team member and the manner in which they worked together - the team spirit and its means of reaching goals and building team members' relationships. Several suggestions were made regarding the types of awards which would be appropriate for a team and the principles for successfully recognizing employees, one being a year's membership in the Friends of the UTA Libraries. The discussion led to a suggested name: T.E.A.M. Award (T[ogether] E[ach] A[chieves] M[ore] S[uccess])

Shirley had again contacted John Minor for any recent information regarding administrative leave for outstanding performance by classified staff. She also talked with Judy Svoboda, past chair of the UTA Staff Advisory Council. There appears to be very little to help in determining criteria for this leave, and Human Resources does not plan to issue campus-wide criteria.

The next meeting will be Wednesday afternoon, November 2nd, at 2:00 o'clock. Shirley will send a draft of criteria and procedures for team recognition and for administrative leave in advance for consideration at this meeting.
