Employee Recognition Committee

MINUTES EMPLOYEE RECOGNITION COMMITTEE Meeting of Tuesday, October 1, 1996

Present: Shirley R., Patty, Noel, Iris, and Shirley S.

  1. We had no nominations to discuss.
  2. We did discuss the criteria for the T.E.A.M.S. award.
  3. We clarified some of our procedures with Shirley Sheets. As stated in the procedures, we should discard any materials in support of nominations at the end of each year. There is no restriction regarding consideration of nominations for part-time staff members.
  4. We concluded with a discussion of our role in soliciting nominations. While we all agree that the committee should be proactive, we feel that our role should be to motivate staff to nominate their fellow staff members; we ourselves should not be responsible for nominating staff for fear that staff members may grow to rely on us for making nominations. We feel that nominations should come from staff members not from the committee. This is not to say that one of the committee members should not nominate a fellow staff member if appropriate. We will launch a PR campaign: Shirley R. will contact Lewis regarding placing a notice in the library newsletter, and Noel and Iris will work on a flyer for the staff lounges. We should all remind staff at our respective department meetings.

Our second meeting was adjourned at approximately 10:30 am.

Respectfully submitted, Iris B. Carroll
