Web Page design considerations
You are not alone:
Equipment considerations when designing web pages
Web page display
Everyone has slightly different monitors; even the same models have been used for different lengths of time.
Different monitors display color differently and varying accuracy.
Use high contrast for best viewing on most monitors or other projectors.
Web page printing
Printers may be set up for full color or black/white only.
Web pages of light text on dark backgrounds might take too much color ink or not print at all.
For pages likely to be printed, black or dark text on white or light backgrounds are best.
Web page printing
Rarely but often enough, certain printers do not print hotlink text, but will print only the underline.
a really great site. May print _________.
Consider web addresses in parentheses beside hotlink text. [____. (www.hhs.gov)]
Browsers
The different browsers often lay out pages differently.
Users may modify displays for accommodation (font size, contrast, etc.)
Unless the layout is very generic, *check* page design through a variety of browsers (ex: Netscape, AOL, IE.)
Download speed
ISPs’ busy times may transmit slowly.
Some people still have slower modems.
Some telephone lines may be slower.
Graphics, audio take a lot of data bits.
Long pages take long times to load.
Link more, shorter pages with less graphics and audio per page.
