Probability: these additional articles are on a topic similar to yours.

•Database and web searches explore unknown.
Keywords, subjects, or authors - things with term appear & results could be good or irrelevant.

•References in back of an article or book chapter go back in time.
Nothing newer listed than the date of article or book.
References usually relevant, if not current.

•Cited reference searching comes forward in time.
Things more current than known reference found. References found usually relevant and more current but need something good to start with first.
 

3 ways to do Citation Searching

1. Web of Knowledge

•Most well known & academically effective -- includes Social Science Citation Index & Science Citation Index.

•Less complete but convenient method
Cited Reference button in EBSCO
PsycINFO or Academic Search Premier databases.

go to any full text database or Web search engine & enter known author’s last name, title phrase, &/or year of publication.
