Assumption: Need references, want to identify articles or chapters
Database Search Techniques:
Refine tab & Limits (PsycINFO), (ASP); Search History ; Truncation: * ; Proximity Operator “Near” (N) – ex. N5, terms within 5 words of each other; Thesaurus (PsycINFO) / Subject Term (ASP); Classification Codes (PsycINFO only); Cited Reference Searching (ASP & PsycINFO), (Web of Knowledge), (hopeful)
Search Building:
Proximity Operator “Near”
(N)
If entering phrase, the database
will locate phrase as written.
Sometimes it is useful to open the phrase with a PROXIMITY
operator.
PROXIMITY will locate words
near each other in any order.
Normally High
functioning AND autis*
[626 retrievals] will not find
Highly function autism

EBSCO databases use N# format
