What is an intranet?

An Intranet is a website for staff designed to make it easy to locate and use stuff and foster community building. For example the intranet could include:

  • News
  • Calendar
  • Working tools
  • Discussion Forums/Message Boards
  • Policies, procedures, minutes
  • Collaborative documents
  • Instant messaging
  • Planning Documents
  • Staff information
  • Forms
  • Staff development and training
  • Professional resources (journals)

The UTA Libraries Intranet Steering Group (ISG) works with library staff to define the mission, objectives, scope, and timeline of the Libraries’ Intranet Project. The ISG will meet with staff to determine expectations for the intranet and how it could be used for informational and communication purposes and as a utility for staff to accomplish their day-to-day work.
