Antares: Assignment 2

We know when we are succeeding when…

The Library is a center of academic life

  • GIS presents additional opportunities for developing campus partnerships
  • The Information Commons will necessitate forming partnerships with other information service providers

Our physical spaces promote research, reflection, collaboration

  • Library space will need to be very flexible and allow for meeting the needs of many diverse users
  • Users’ needs for space will change constantly

Our virtual space offers resources and services anywhere, anytime

  • The Libraries’ website provides or can provide a virtual Information Commons
  • Digital agents that aid researchers will be available anytime/anywhere
  • Virtual instructional programs will provide opportunities to reach new audiences
  • For ILL/DD distance between information and customer can be irrelevant

All resources and services are easy to use

  • There will be an increasing demand for GIS capabilities and expertise
  • Information Commons provide a giant step toward a “one stop shopping” service model
  • Tools for broader applications in learning and research are increasing rapidly
  • Digitization projects in Special Collections both increase awareness of resources and allow new dimensions of access
  • ILL/DD services will need less intervention by staff in the future
  • In order to make resources and services easier, we will need to adopt new standards that move us away from traditional standards

All users are information fluent

  • Information Commons may provide new opportunities for instructional and information literacy programs
  • Options for the delivery of instruction and information literacy offerings will increase

Our investment in staff, information resources, and technology promotes academic success and life-long learning.

  • Information Commons require staff that blend content and technical competencies together seamlessly
  • Staff will need to have constantly increasing skills and competencies, but not all staff will need all skills and competencies
  • To maintain a critical position on campus, libraries will need to invest heavily in order to keep their technologies current and relevant
  • Technology will continue to provide opportunities for increased productivity
  • Libraries need to emphasize outcomes measurements rather than continuing to measure inputs or outputs
