Values and Beliefs
(Old Version)
Underlying the Libraries' purpose and mission are
a number of basic values and beliefs about ourselves and our
responsibility to our staff and users.
- Information is critical to the accomplishment
of UTA's goals of scholarship, teaching, and service. The Libraries
serve as a pathway to information for faculty, students, and staff.
- Information technology is critical to the
future of the Libraries. We value creativity and flexibility in
adapting to change and take reasoned risks in pursuing new
opportunities.
- We show respect and encouragement for
individual users by advocating equal access to all and ensuring their
privacy; and by teaching information seeking skills and promoting
independent inquiry.
- We show respect and encouragement for staff
members by involving them in decision making; by providing training
and development; by supporting their participation in life long
learning; and by recognizing and compensating them for their
contributions. Our staff makes the Libraries unique.
- We strive to create collections and services
which reflect a variety of view points, welcoming a diverse user
community. We strive to create an environment in which every staff
member feels valued for their individuality.
- The Libraries are a valuable information
resource to both the University and the larger community. We
participate aggressively in cooperative information initiatives to
improve service to both.
