Plan for Professional Forum 2005-06

 

 

Focus

·        Get people more excited about Professional Forum

·        How?

o       Approach hot topics

o       Give staff more opportunities to get involved, and share their knowledge/experience.

o       Consider expanding Professional Forum web site to include a clearinghouse of professional development tools, schedule of professionally oriented webcasts, etc.

 

Sessions:

 

·        One on the redefinition of SEL

·        One focusing on banning access to materials

o       An examination of access to information.  What is accessible and what is not?

o       Possible Title: “Banning Access to Information: Is it such a bad idea?”

o       Set for October 19, 2005

·        Three that will focus on expanding technological skills

o       Invite staff to offer suggestions, and PDC will select the best 2 suggestions for each forum meeting.

·        One focusing on the different approaches and viewpoints among Library staff members of different generations.

o       Have a panel of staff members.

o       Possible Title: “Old Fogies” and “Young Whippersnappers”: Generational Differences Among Library Staff Members

·        One focusing on professional ethics

o       Panel consisting of at least 1 professor and 1 librarian

·        One focusing on incorporating different learning styles

o       Panel consisting of at least 1 professor and 1 librarian

o       Possible Title: “What’s your Learning Style?”

·        Look to bring in 2 speakers from the outside

·        Two wildcards

·         Wednesday, September 21, 10am – 11am

·         Wednesday, October 19, 10am – 11am

·         Wednesday, November 23, 10am – 11am

·         Wednesday, December 21, 10am – 11am
