Library Exhibits

On display in Special Collections in 2000-2002:

“Maps in Popular Culture” accompanied the Second Biennial Virginia Garrett Lectures on the History of Cartography, held October 6, 200, and the Texas Map Society Meeting on October 7.

“Kaleidoscope” was composed of selections made by Special Collections staff to highlight collection favorites.

“Shape of Texas” consisted of maps showing how Texas has been depicted over the years.

“The Texas Trio: Spotlight on Texas Authors” featured the Ben Capps, Ben K. Green, and A. C. Greene papers.

“Natural Encounters” exhibit accompanied a conference of the same name. Selections were mounted by Kit Goodwin, and Pratap Mandapaka.

“Moments in Time” featured photos from Special Collections and was curated by Pichi Arrigunaga and Colin Toenjes for the Library Information Fair.

“Texas Labor Archives” materials were displayed at Waco Central Labor Council anniversary meeting.

Gallery talks of the “Kaleidoscope” exhibit were given for Libraries staff by Kit Goodwin, Sally Gross, Paul Oelkrug, Shirley Rodnitzky, Gary Spurr, and Colin Toenjes.

Outside exhibition loans were made to the Bob Bullock State History Museum in Austin (continued from the previous year, 800+ postcards and the Spring Palace painting) and to the Fomento Cultural Banamex in Mexico City (maps, graphics, and currency) for “México, Los Proyectos de Una Nación, 1821-1888”, which was seen by 348,938 visitors in a 3 month period.

Science and Engineering Library

Several monthly exhibits were curated by Antoinette Nelson. These included:
"Bats of the Night" - October 2001
"Celebrating American Chemical Society's 125th Anniversary" - November 2001
"Showcase of Engineering Journals" - February 2002
"National Library Week's ‘Rediscover America @your library’" - April 2002
"Everything you wanted to know about Patents" - July/Aug 2002

Architecture and Fine Arts Library

Margaret Oerter curated several exhibits in AFA. They included:
"The Organ and Architecture"
"Tin Pan Alley and the Sheet Music"
"Dr. Elizabeth Morrow and her cello class"
"Cello in art."
