The Libraries are committed to building
collections and services that are relevant to users and are as easy to
use as possible. As a result, the Libraries collect materials in all
formats (paper, microform, photographic, manuscript, etc.) and provide
access to electronic products that are diverse and user friendly. The
Libraries acquire these resources by purchase and donation.
Among
the most important new or upgraded resources that the Libraries acquired
during the year were the following:
Africa
Folk Music Atlas. An
interactive CD-ROM of African music.
The
Big Move, 1998. A
work of original art prints including one by Nancy Palmeri of the UTA
art faculty.
Chemical
Abstracts on CD-ROM. Chemistry
database including information in Organic Chemistry, Biochemistry,
Physical, Inorganic, Analytical, Macromolecular Chemistry, Applied
Chemistry, and Chemical Engineering.
Compendex
(Engineering Index).
Contemporary
Architects and Architecture Monographs. Funds from the summer 1998 telefund campaign have been used to purchase
books on contemporary architects, such as Frank Gehry, Richard Meier,
Alvar Aalto, Luis Barragan, Richard Legoretta, and others, and issues in
contemporary architecture.
Criminal
Justice Abstracts. Contains
comprehensive coverage of international journals, books, reports,
dissertations, and unpublished papers on criminology and related
disciplines.
Dick
Hyman’s Century of Jazz Piano. An
interactive CD.
DISCovering
Multicultural America. This
is a reference source that offers information on the culture, history,
and current status of America’s largest ethnic groups, including
African Americans, Asian Americans, Hispanic Americans, and Native
Americans.
EI Village. Includes
global information for technical professionals such as engineers,
researchers, and managers, including industry and research information,
business and financial data, news and newspapers, and career and
education information.
Exploring
Ancient Cities. An
interactive CD about ancient architecture.
Frank
Lloyd Wright: Selected Houses. 8 vols. Includes houses designed by the noted architect.
Grove
Dictionary of Art. This
is a comprehensive art reference work covering all forms of the visual
arts: painting, sculpture, architecture, graphic and decorative arts,
and photography.
IDEAL.
This
is an online electronic library containing 174 Academic Press journals
and selected other titles. Subjects covered include biomedical sciences,
business, computer science, economics, engineering, law, life sciences,
mathematics, physical and environmental sciences, psychology, and social
sciences.
IEEE/IEE
Electronic Library. Search
and browse publications from the Institute of Electrical and Electronics
Engineers (IEEE) and the Institution of Electrical Engineers (IEE).
Contains all of the IEEE and IEE publications: journals, transactions,
and magazines; conference and colloquia proceedings; and IEEE standards.
INSPEC.
This
database was upgraded to a web interface. Covers the world’s
scientific and technical literature in physics, electrical engineering,
electronics, communications, control engineering, computers and
computing, and information technology.

is a web database for scientific research that contains the full text of

is an interactive CD about drawing.
Woodard,
Don, Clippings Collection. This
collection includes clippings of significant local, state, regional, and
international news stories for the past two decades.
World
News Connection. This
online news service offers an extensive array of translated and
English-language news and information. The material in WNC is provided
to the National Technical Information Service by the Foreign Broadcast
Information Service. The information is obtained from full text and
summaries of newspaper articles, conference proceedings, television and
radio broadcasts, periodicals, and non-classified technical reports.
