Assistance with Distance Learning Classes
If you will be teaching a distance learning class during the coming semester, CSE librarian Jason Neal (817-272-2698) can develop a webpage specifically tailored for your course needs. It can include links to individual online articles for course readings, relevant websites, instructions for accessing library databases from off-campus, and more.
To help us serve you and your students better, below is a checklist of library-related reminders for the coming semester:
You may submit purchase requests for books or journals to librarian Jason Neal. Even if you don't know specific titles, you may also inform us of subject deficiencies you have noticed in our collection. We try to fulfill as many requests as possible, but there are a few that we might not be able to fulfill. Along with budgetary considerations, other disciplines also submit requests for books and journals. We have to decide which requests receive top priority.
If you submit a request that we purchase something for the library, please consider the following:
As always, cost is yet another factor we consider. This has become more important recently due to the statewide budgetary situation. In addition, prices for many journal subscriptions have increased by at least 10%. Nevertheless, a good justification based on the criteria listed above can work in favor of purchasing an item.
For a variety of reasons, we generally do not purchase textbooks. We consider financial and space restrictions so that we can purchase more specialized materials that support UTA courses and research. Also, unlike more specialized books and journals, students will more likely purchase textbooks for themselves. However, we do make exceptions if very little else is available on a topic. In addition, if you have a personal copy of a textbook, you may place it on reserve for student use.
