With RefWorks, you can create your own personal bibliographic database by importing references from online databases. You can also use these references when writing papers, and automatically format the paper and the bibliography. 

In order to use RefWorks, sign up to create your own account.

Bill Mott, account executive for Cambridge Scientific Abstracts, will give a demo of this database on Friday, 19 April, in room 315-A at the Central Library (10-11 A.M.).

The UTA Libraries would appreciate any comments you have about RefWorks. Please send feedback to Jason Neal, EE librarian. The trial period ends on 30 April.

IEEE has added some new features to the Xplore database:

• Find listings of IEEE documents that cite a specific document
• Download citations to bibliographic management programs
• Hyperlinks from abstracts to all documents by an author
• Hyperlinks from abstracts to all documents containing an indexing term

UTA has begun a subscription to the Taylor and Francis publication Microscale Thermophysical Engineering. This quarterly journal examines analytical modeling, experimental studies, and industrial applications in microscale thermophysical engineering.

Scientific and technological inaccuracies in science fiction got you down? Sci-Fi Science Blunders Hall of Infamy provides a compilation of such errors from science fiction television shows and movies. (Star Trek pops up quite a bit.) Great for a good laugh... or cry. 

For more fun, also see "Bad Astronomy", "Particles of Star Trek", and overused science fiction cliches.

You have most of the citation information for an article or a conference proceeding. However, some vital piece of citation information is missing, such as the author, journal title, volume, publication year, etc. Here are a few options to help you find that information:

• Search databases in your discipline.
  
  
• Try databases in a different discipline, especially for interdisciplinary research.
  
  
• Enter keywords from the citation in a search engine (such as Google). Complete citation information may be tucked away in someone's online syllabus, curriculum vitae, bibliography, etc. The more unique the keywords, the better (the same principle applies to using databases).
  
  
• If you're pressed for time, contact Jason Neal (EE librarian) for assistance
