What's New in SEL:

Group Study Rooms
We now have three group study rooms. The Emerald, Ruby, & Sapphire Rooms are very popular with the group study crowd.  Currently, only the Emerald Room has a plasma screen. Each room has a whiteboard.  Reservations are required and same day advanced reservations are accepted.  Users must show a UTA ID card to check out the rooms.
Photocopiers
Photocopiers have been moved.  Two are located between shelf ranges 19-20.  One is adjacent to the current periodicals area.

Congratulations:

"Biomedical Engineering Professor Kevin Nelson has received a U.S. Patent for his drug-releasing, biodegradable fibers that have potential uses in battling cancers and in repairing damaged nerve and organ tissue. The fibers carry drugs or chemicals to targeted areas of the body and then harmlessly dissolve once their work is completed. Nelson has been working on the fibers since 1996. Nelson is in the fourth year of a $1.216 million grant from the National Institutes of Health to develop applications leading to nerve regeneration."  [UTA Today 8/19]

"Electrical Engineering Professor Wei-Jen Lee, has been named director of the College of Engineering's Energy Systems Research Center. The appointment becomes effective Sept. 1. The Energy Systems Research Center is one of the world's leading research and training facilities for power generation, transmission and distribution. The Institute of Electronic and Electrical Engineers rates it in the top 10 power engineering stations in the nation. Governments and utility companies send their power engineers to the ESRC for training, and researchers in the center are regularly called on for consultation services. Lee earned his Ph.D. in electrical engineering at UTA in 1985 and stayed to conduct post-doctoral studies until joining the faculty in 1986. His research interests are power system phenomena under steady state, stressed and emergency conditions and microcomputer-based equipment for power system monitoring, measurement, protection and control."  [UTA Today 8/19]

-How Everyday Things are Made: "If you've ever wondered how things are made - products like candy, cars, airplanes, or bottles...you've come to the right place." Showcases more than 40 different products and manufacturing processes. Requires Macromedia Flash Player. Features more than four hours of manufacturing videos; a high-speed Internet connection is recommended for optimal viewing. Includes a collection of links to online factory tours at a variety of different companies. Ever wonder how they make hot air balloons?" -Engineer-cad.coma one-stop, job and resume posting site dedicated specifically to the fields of Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture and all professions within those fields.

-Eprint Networka vast, integrated network of electronic scientific and technical information created by scientists and research engineers active in their respective fields, intended for use by other scientists, engineers, and students at advanced levels.  Includes a gateway to over 12,000 Web sites and databases worldwide, containing e-prints in basic and applied sciences, primarily in physics but also including subject areas such as chemistry, biology and life sciences, materials science, nuclear sciences and engineering, energy research, computer and information technologies, and other disciplines of interest to DOE.

Did you know?:

-CHAT ONLINE QuestionPoint: a Web-based electronic reference service at the University of Texas at Arlington Libraries provides "chat sessions" with reference staff .  This service is available Monday-Thursday 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm, excluding University Holidays.
