"Don Liles, professor and chair of industrial engineering, and Dave Johnson, research engineer, were featured in the "Frames" Section of the FW Business Press. The Quality Certification Bureau presented TMAC with a plaque acknowledging working together to implement quality management systems for smaller manufacturers in Metroplex." [UTA Today 5/28/03]

"Geoffrey Grant, a former researcher at the Salk Institute and the chief executive officer of what is now one of the top 20 biotechnology firms in Canada, has been named director of the UTA-based Arlington Technology Incubator. Grant is currently the senior manager of research at the University of the North Texas Health Science Center (UNTHSC) in Fort Worth. He will head the collaborative effort between the University and the Arlington Chamber of Commerce that was established last year to foster entrepreneurial and research growth with a focus on technology transfers related to UTA's growing scientific and engineering research efforts. While at the Health Science Center, Grant coordinated the licensing of UNTHSC technologies as part of the formation of six startup companies including one valued at $50 million and one that has raised more than $70 million from the venture market. Prior to joining UNTHSC, Grant was CEO of a small startup biotech company in Canada and was responsible for its development and conversion to a public entity, Microbiologix Biotech, Inc., now one of the top 20 biotech firms in that nation.  He also spent seven years as a research at the Salk Institute in its Department of Neuroendocrinology. He is the co-discoverer of somatostain, a growth hormone release inhibiting peptide. He will join UTA July 1."  [UTA Today 6/2/03]

"Former UTA Movin' Mav wheelchair basketball player Paul Schulte has been nominated for an ESPY Award and will be at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood July 16 when ESPN announces the winners live on the national cable network. Schulte was selected as one of three candidates in the "Best Disabled Athlete" division. A senior at UTA, Schulte is completing work on a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering and was a four-time collegiate All-American for the Movin' Mavs between 1999 and 2002. He also led UTA to the 2002 national championship. As a member of Team USA at last year's Wheelchair Basketball Gold Cup in Japan, he was voted the tournament's best player after leading USA to the World Championship. Schulte was also the subject of a story in both the May 20 Forth Worth Star-Telegram and this month's edition of Sports 'N Spokes Magazine. In addition, he was nominated for a Laureus World Sports Award last month. For more about the award, go to http://espn.go.com/espy2003/s/03disablednominees.html."  [UTA Today 6/24/03]
