Open Access is coming. The scholarly publishing model is
changing, so how can you keep its benefits while reaping the new
opportunities? UTA Libraries staff invite you to get in on the
ground floor as we all learn about this new development together.
We will be viewing a Webcast “virtual seminar” on open access as
it pertains to libraries, on Wednesday, December 1, at 1:00 pm -
2:45 pm in Central Library 315A. Presentations to broader
sectors of the university committee will come later—this is a first
glimpse.
"More than 30 firms as well as numerous UTA departments will demonstrate how they are using information technology at the Fourth Annual UTA Technology Fair from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 10, in the E.H. Hereford University Center. The event is free and open to the public and will also include track sessions on how to use the latest technology and product demonstrations. Trends in higher education that are either being seen or are anticipated as a function of information technology and its effect on the learning environment will be the topic of a talk by Brian Hawkins, president of EDUCAUSE, a nonprofit association whose mission is to advance higher education by promoting the intelligent use of information technology. He will discuss the trends' impact on organizational structures on campus, the marketplace for higher education, the culture of our institutions and the business practices that we employ, all leading to both a turbulent and transformed enterprise. The UTA Honors College will host an interactive session for all students (not just Honors students) who want to meet and talk with Dr. Hawkins. Door prizes will include iPods and software. For more information on the fair, go to http://www.uta.edu/techfair/." UTA Today Wed. 11/3/04 (Donna Darovich)
Dr. Brian Hawkins, President of Educause, will be on campus for the Technology Fair. His article, “A Framework for the CIO Position”, which is published in the current issue of Educause Review is online at http://www.educause.edu/apps/er/erm04/erm046.asp. Students are invited to meet and talk with Dr. Hawkins at the TechFair Student Session to be sponsored by the Honors College in the Red River/Concho Room in the Hereford UC from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 10.
Professor and chair of the UTA Department of
Biology Dr. Jonathan Campbell will discuss some of the 190
species of dangerously venomous snakes in North, Central and
South America at the UTA Libraries Focus on Faculty lecture from
12:05-1:15 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 17. Campbell is the author of
the recently published book Venomous Reptiles of the Western
Hemisphere, which received a highly favorable review from Science magazine. The program is free and open to the
public. Light refreshments will be served.
