UTA Dean of Engineering Bill Carroll and alumnus Coy Veach (B.S. 1977, M.S. 1981 in civil engineering) collected two prestigious engineering awards recently. Carroll was presented the Mid-Cities Engineer of the Year Award and Veach was named Fort Worth Engineer of the Year by the Texas Society of Professional Engineers. [UTA Today 2/03]

UTA Electrical Engineering Assistant Professor Qilian Liang has been selected to receive the prestigious Young Investigator Award from the Office of Naval Research that is given to the best and brightest young academic researchers in the nation. "This is one of the most prestigious academic honors in the US and in fact worldwide," said Professsor F. L. Lewis, associate director for research at UTA's Automation & Robotics Research Institute. "It places him in the top ten percent of all US faculty."  [UTA Today 2/03]

UTA ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF CHEMISTRY ONE OF NATION'S BEST YOUNG SCIENTISTS: Assistant professor of chemistry Dmitry Rudkevich has been named recipient of a Sloan Research Fellowship, recognizing him as one of the nation's best young scientists.  A member of the UTA faculty since 2001, Rudkevich will receive a two-year $40,000 grant to continue research into several areas, including the supramolecular chemistry of gases.  The Sloan Research Fellowship is designed to identify those who show promise of making contributions to new knowledge.  [UTA Today 2/03]

Database Information

New:  These database are now available from the UTA Libraries Online electronic resources web page.
BioOne CHEMnetBASE ENGnetBase Sweets-McGraw Hill Construction

BioOne:  A current collection of over 50 online, full-text journals in the subject areas of biology, ecology and environmental sciences.  Most are peer-reviewed serial publications of smaller scientific societies with coverage beginning in 2000. Journals are searchable as a group or by individual titles.  Full-text articles are available in PDF and can be viewed using the Adobe Acrobat® Reader.

CHEMnetBASE: Chapman & Hall/CRC chemistry handbooks: Handbook of Chemistry & Physics, Combined Chemical Dictionary (CCD) (Dictionary of Commonly Cited Compounds, Dictionary of Drugs [formerly Pharmasource], Dictionary of Inorganic and Organometallic Compounds, Dictionary of Natural Products, Dictionary of Organic Compounds), Polymers: A Property Database, and Properties of Organic Compounds. All books can be searched for specific terms, or handbooks can be read individually using the Adobe Acrobat® Reader.

ENGnetBASE: Chapman & Hall/CRC handbooks in engineering disciplines. Electronic versions of over 130 books in areas including aerospace, civil, HVAC, electrical, materials, optics, industrial/manufacturing, biomedical, and computer engineering. All books can be searched for specific terms, or handbooks can be read individually using the Adobe Acrobat® Reader.

Sweets - McGraw Hill Construction:  Sweets has been the number one reference source for architects, engineers and contractors since 1906. In this catalog top manufacturers provide comprehensive and detailed product information. You can browse through over 61,000 featured products.
