Central Library News:

Central Library will be open 24 hours a day during Finals Week -- Central Library will open at 9 am Sunday, December 8, 2002 and remain open continuously until 8 pm Friday, December 13, 2002.

UTA Libraries Online Re:design -- The UTA Libraries are redesigning its web site (http://www.uta.edu/library/) and need your comments and opinions to make the web site the best it can be.  Online surveys are being conducted.  Your feedback is important.

Database Information

          New:  Current Research @ University of Texas - Arlington
Current Research@University of Texas - Arlington (1997-present) contains UTA theses and dissertations from Dissertations Abstracts. This database allows users to search for citations (author, title, advisor, etc.) and abstracts, view previews, and download the full text of UTA theses and dissertations.

          Spotlight:   Fort Worth Star-Telegram Online
Fort Worth Star-Telegram Online (1991-present) Updated daily. Database consists of full text content of local and regional news only. Access to certain free-lance articles may not be available. Excluded are national and international news from wire services such as the Associated Press.

          Trial: Columbia Earthscape: an Online Resource on the Global Environment
Columbia Earthscape: an Online Resource on the Global Environment (1999-present). Updated Monthly. Provides curriculum-related materials, conference proceedings, video clips, and links and resources. The database is organized in four sections: Research, Education, Earth Affairs Magazine, and Links and Resources. Subjects covered are astronomy, ecology, environment, geology, meteorology, oceanography, and paleontology.   Trial ends January 3, 2003

Digital Media Classroom:
Located in room B29 in the Central Library, the Digital Media Classroom (DMC) offers a self-service multimedia production and training facility. Its purpose is to serve the needs of students, faculty, and staff who wish use new media in teaching and research.  

The DMC features Dell and Apple computers, scanners, and audio/visual equipment. Available software enables digital audio and video editing, graphic and animation creation, web site creation, animation, photo and image manipulation, and multimedia authoring. Course development software (WebCT) assistance is also available.

The DMC is open Monday through Friday 10am-4pm, with hours to be extended in Spring 2003.  No reservation is required to use the facility, but persons needing consultation or training should contact classroom staff for an appointment at (817) 272-1345 or libraryweb@uta.edu


Distance Learning

Do you plan on teaching a distance learning class during the coming semester? To help your students find research-related items more easily, contact your subject librarian to develop a webpage specifically tailored for course needs. It can include links to individual articles for course readings, relevant webpages, instructions for accessing online resources from your home, and more.
