Humboldt's Legacy: Measuring the World

The annual Fall Meeting of the Texas map Society (TMS) will be held on October 2-4, 2009, in Arlington, Texas, the heart of the North Texas Metroplex. the TMS commemorates the 150th anniversary of the death of Alexander von Humboldt by celebrating this remarkable man whose influence dominated United States' exploration and cartography for more than half a century between the time of the Lewis and Clark Expedition and the American Civil War. The three day TMS meeting promised us an extraordinary opportunity to hear great speakers, see exciting and beautiful maps in both private and public collections, and engage in a unique opportunity to participate in a realistic recreation of Pioneer Texas Surveying. For a printable registration brochure with all the meeting particulars and a registration form, click on the link below for the PDF file. A registration form only is also available with the link below.

In addition, this year, The University of Texas at Arlington's Transatlantic History Student Organization has invited TMS members to attend their meeting on Thursday, October 1, 2009, prior to the TMS meeting. A separate registration is required although there is no fee for attendance. An informational flyer is available on this site as well.
