McQuirk, Jr., M.D., suggested we provide information about map related listserv's that may be of interest to our members.  Here are a few map related.  For finding lists for almost any subject area, use http://tile.net/lists

1.  HISTGEOG resides at Syracuse University.  You can join this group of over 200 subscribers by sending the message "sub HISTGEOG your name" to listserv@listserv.syr.edu.
2.  MAPHIST resides at Harvard.  Join the over 600 subscribers by sending the message "sub MAPHIST your name" to listserv@harvarda.bitnet.
3.  MAPS-L resides at the University of Georgia.  Join the over 1,000 subscribers by sending the message "sub MAPS-L your name" to maps-l-request@uga.cc.uga.edu.
4.  MILHST-L resides at the University of Kansas. Send the message "sub MILHIST your name" to listserv@ukans.edu
5.  Geography Club (GEOCLUB) Subscribe to listserv@listserv.uoguelph.ca with Message:  sub GEOCLUB your name
6.  Cognitive Maps and their Study (COGMAP).  You can join this group by sending the Message: sub COGMAP your name to listserv@listserv.arizona.edu

To Subscribe to a List Service:

It is very easy to subscribe to a Listserv, and if you have email, you can join a listserv.  Use the address furnished and make the only an entry in the "To" and the  "Message Text" as prescribed, observing lower and upper case letters and with only specified punctuation.   Below is an example for subscribing to GEOCLUB:

To : listserv@listserv.uoguelph.ca
Cc : Attachment:
Subject :
----- Message Text -----
sub GEOCLUB Lewis A. Armstrong

Ensure you do not have a signature box on your message and do not enter an entry on the "Subject" line.  When you receive confirmation of subscription, print out the instructions that include how to "Unsubscribe."  The message will also provide the e-mail address for you to post messages to the list.
