Aida Allen was awarded a UTA CARES Innovation Grant for her project, “Building a Business Math Content Library in WeBWorK.” Allen, a senior lecturer for UTA’s Department of Mathematics, received the grant to develop a library of business math homework problems in the online platform WeBWorK.

Allen’s project addresses the challenge of providing prompt feedback on homework and quizzes for a large class without adding costs. WeBWorK is an open source online homework system that provides feedback to students as they work. Allen said that successful modification of the platform “can potentially eliminate our need for costly online homework platforms in the future.”

The UTA CARES Grant Program, managed by UTA Libraries, helps educators adopt and create open educational resources (OER), which are free course materials that are licensed so others can revise and reuse the content. Allen’s project will save UTA students enrolled in the course Business Mathematics with Foundations (MATH 1315) approximately $7,016.40 in Fall 2020.
