Leslie Jennings was awarded a UTA CARES Innovation Grant for her project, “Strategies for Success in Nursing School: From Start to Finish.” Jennings, Clinical Instructor in UTA’s College of Nursing and Health Innovation, received the grant to develop an open textbook to give new nursing students the skills needed to succeed in the nursing program at UTA. The book will blend existing resources with new work to create course materials customized for UTA’s nursing students.

The UTA CARES Grant Program, managed by UTA Libraries, helps educators adopt and create open educational resources (OER), which are free course materials that are licensed so others can revise and reuse the content.

"Having worked with freshman and pre-nursing students for many years, I believe that nursing students have unique needs," Jennings said. "Providing an OER that is tailored to them, at no cost, is a win on many levels and I am thrilled to be able to work on this project."

In Fall 2020 alone, the OER will save an estimated $87,700 for approximately 750 UTA students.
