America 250 from 1776 – 2026: Celebrating the Anniversary of the Declaration of Independence

The UTA Libraries Display Committee works to curate library materials that showcase resources that students can check out to learn more about American history, American government, and view photos from UTA Special Collections. This month, UTA Libraries celebrates the anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.

Latino Americans: the 500-year legacy that shaped a nation

Sharing the personal struggles and successes of immigrants, poets, soldiers, and many others, this companion to the PBS miniseries explores the lives of Latino American men and women over a 500-year-span who have made an impact on American history. 

On the Brink of Civil War: the Compromise of 1850 and how it changed the course of American history

The dramatic story of when 19th century American senators attempted to craft a compromise to save the Union. This book explores the time period after the U.S.-Mexican War when the nation was deciding whether slavery would be permitted in the newly acquired territories.

US History at the 250th: from the Revolution to the history wars

This book challenges the origins of when America became a nation and opens up the discussion of how its history was crafted, and by whom. Pulitzer Prize Winners Nikole Hannah-Jones and Annette Gordon-Reed are two of vast professionals in the history field who participate in this conversation. Other specialists include experts in Asian American, civil rights, Native American, Latino, LGBTQ+, and Early American history.

Whose American Revolution Was it?

Viewing the American Revolution from the perspectives of diverse groups, this book identifies the different ways historians have interpreted the American Revolution. This historical analysis resists the standard understanding of the American Revolution and provides an acknowledgement of the deep division in Revolutionary-era society.
