Bring Your Mav ID: UTA Libraries Moving to Tap Access Oct. 5
Starting Monday, Oct. 5, students, faculty and staff will need to have their Mav ID with them when visiting any of the three UTA Libraries locations.
The libraries are removing the keypads used to enter and exit the building and the tap-access system and swipe systems will remain in place. The tap system works much like tapping a debit or credit card at a store. Instead of entering an ID number on a keypad, users tap their Mav ID at the access point and enter the building.
"Your library access starts with your Mav ID," Morgan Brickey-Jones, Head Librarian and Director of Community Engagement, said. "The change is designed to make entering the Libraries faster, easier and safer while bringing library access in line with other university facilities."
Brickey Jones stated that the most important thing to remember is to bring your Mav ID when you come to the Libraries.

A faster way to enter
The keypads will be removed at the Central Library, the West Campus Library in the CAPPA building and the Science and Engineering Library in Nedderman Hall. In order to access the Libraries after Oct. 5, users will need their MavID to swipe or tap.
With swipe and tap access, users can enter the building more quickly without manually entering their ID number.
Moving to solely swipe or tap access will simplify the process and make it easier for users to get into the Libraries and begin using the spaces, resources, and services they came for.

Your Mav ID does more than get you through the door
Having your Mav ID with you is important beyond entering the Libraries.
A Mav ID may be needed to check out materials and access certain spaces, including resources in the Libraries' basement. University policy also requires students, faculty, and staff to carry their university ID.
Swipe and tap access will also provide a more secure way for Libraries staff to manage building entry while helping keep access moving smoothly.
The keypads that allow students to enter their ID numbers located at the entrances and exits of all three UTA Libraries branches will be retired on Oct. 5. Students will be able to enter the Libraries' three branches by tapping or swiping their ID.
Mav Express Pop Event
Most students receive a Mav ID through new student orientation, and Mav Express offers a variety of options for obtaining or replacing a card.
Students, faculty and staff who have lost their previously issued IDs, Mav Express will be onsite at the Central Library at pop up event to replace them. Mav Express will at the Central Library from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on both Oct. 5 and Oct. 6.
Users can stop by during those hours to get a new tap-enabled Mav ID.
Don't have your Mav ID with you?
The Libraries will continue to welcome users who arrive without a Mav ID.
Users without their university ID can check in as a guest by presenting a government-issued photo ID, such as a driver’s license, state identification card, or passport.
The process may take a little longer, so bringing your Mav ID remains the easiest way to access the Libraries.
The goal is simple: Bring your Mav ID, tap or swipe in and get on with your day.
Starting Oct. 5, make your Mav ID part of your library routine. Having it with you will help you get into the building faster, access the resources you need, and help keep the Libraries a safe place for everyone.
