In the heart of UTA Libraries, one of the many people charting the path to becoming an R1 Research Library is Janet Burka at the Day Family Research Lab (DFRL). With her passion for discovery and a dedication to fostering academic growth, Burka is crucial in guiding researchers through their scholarly journeys.

Janet Burka’s journey with research began as a student, where her love for uncovering new knowledge was ignited. Today, she channels that same enthusiasm into her work at the DFRL. This work allows her to learn the moment that comes along with the discovery.

“I love working with students and faculty on their research. As a student, I loved doing research. Now, I get to do that every day. I learn about someone’s topic, why it excites them, and how it contributes to that field,” Burka shared. Her words reflect a deep-seated commitment to nurturing the academic community.

The Day Family Research Lab stands as a cornerstone of research excellence at UTA. The lab collaborates with researchers throughout the entire research lifecycle, from supporting systematic and literature reviews to crafting data management plans and facilitating digital dissemination of researchers’ work.

As the manager for research support and partnerships, Burka’s role is pivotal. She helps and guides researchers to find resources and suitable academic journals to ensure their work reaches the appropriate audience.

“My team and I work to make connections across campus to help people understand what we are doing here at the lab and how they can partner in faculty and student research,” she explained.

Burka’s expertise in research impact is invaluable, helping graduate students and faculty members understand the broader implications of their work.

In an era where technology is rapidly transforming academia, Burka is at the forefront of educating researchers about the impact of artificial intelligence. She and her team teach how to use AI software effectively, ensuring researchers can harness its power to enhance their results.

Burka’s dedication to the academic community is unwavering. She encourages everyone to visit the Day Family Research Lab, whether they need guidance on a project or simply want to explore its offerings. Our dedicated team offers tailored consultations and continuous assistance, empowering you to excel in your research projects and on your professional journey.
