UTA Libraries Launches LibKey Nomad to Deliver Faster, One-Click Access to Research Materials
UTA Libraries is excited to announce the campuswide introduction of LibKey Nomad. This powerful browser extension brings UTA Libraries' collections directly into users' web browsing experience, making research more straightforward, faster and more accessible for students, faculty, staff and the public.
LibKey Nomad automatically provides instant links to full-text articles and e-books that the UTA Libraries subscribes to or that are available through open access whenever users encounter literature while browsing online. Whether someone is searching on Google Scholar, exploring Wikipedia citations or reviewing PubMed results, LibKey Nomad intelligently finds the fastest path to content available through UTA Libraries, eliminating extra steps and reducing user frustration.
"This tool helps bring the library to where people are already doing research," Walter Betts, Director of Library Systems and Technology at UTA Libraries, said. "Rather than having to start at the Libraries’ homepage or navigate complex database interfaces, users can see access options with a single click, removing barriers and saving valuable time."
What LibKey Nomad Means for the UTA Community
LibKey Nomad enhances discovery and access by:
- Automatically detecting access options for scholarly content on publisher pages and research sites.
- Providing one-click links to full text, directly from the page where users find an article or e-book.
- Supporting major web browsers, including Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Safari, Vivaldi and Brave.
- Seamlessly connecting UTA Libraries' holdings to content users encounter across the web.
LibKey Nomad runs quietly in the background and does not collect personal browsing data; it simply looks for content that UTA Libraries can deliver, saving users the extra step of navigating multiple library systems or search platforms.
Enhancing Research On and Off Campus
Once installed, LibKey Nomad places a small green icon in your browser toolbar and displays access options when you encounter a resource that the Libraries can provide. This means users can start research anywhere, from personal laptops, library computers or off-campus locations, and still connect easily to trusted, fully licensed scholarship.
- Students can spend less time managing paywalls and more time focusing on meaningful research.
- Faculty and researchers experience smoother access to the literature needed for teaching and scholarship.
- Staff and community members gain easier routes to credible information during research and coursework.
Students and employees using personal devices can install the extension and select "University of Texas at Arlington" during setup. It is already installed on UTA Libraries' public computers and will be deployed to additional university-managed devices in partnership with UTA's Office of Information Technology.
"This rollout reflects our commitment to reducing friction in research workflows and delivering high-quality library services that support the entire UTA community," Betts added.
