Anette Moreno-Lozano brings a global perspective to her role as a multidisciplinary librarian in UTA Libraries' Research Services Department.

Since joining the staff in May, Anette has used her knowledge and experience gained from time spent in Mexico and Cuba to assist students and faculty members with their research projects.

"I had the opportunity to study for four years at the National Autonomous University of Mexico, where I earned my Ph.D. in Library and Information Studies," Anette said.  “After many years of study, I wanted to apply my knowledge. That is why I decided to apply for one of the positions here at UTA."

Anette stated that during her time in Mexico, she served as a research assistant working at the Nonlinear Dynamics Lab at the university in the areas of science, technology and engineering.

Her duties in the lab are similar to her role at UTA Libraries, where she will be helping students and professors in the engineering field with research projects.

Before studying in Mexico, Anette grew up in Cuba.

"I used to live in Havana City, which is the capital," Anette said. "The people there are friendly and open-minded. You have to see photos of my country. It has beautiful beaches."

Anette became interested in the library field through the encouragement of her mother's friend, who was a librarian at National Library Jose Marti. This interest and encouragement led her to pursue a bachelor's in library information studies at the University of Havana.

For seven years, Anette worked as a researcher at the National Library at the Institute of Scientific and Technological Information at the Ministry of Science. She used data visualization tools while conducting scientometrics studies.

"I was in charge of the agricultural topic. I conducted scientometrics studies to compare the Cuban scientific production with other countries. In addition, I worked in the first open-access initiative. It was a national project about implementing a network of repositories in open access. My role was focused on assessment of scientific journals."

Anette shared her thanks for the warm welcome she received from staff members during her onboarding process. She looks forward to sharing her talents and knowledge with the UTA community.
