Course Reserves
The UTA Libraries Course Reserves (reserves) is an ever-evolving collection of resources, primarily requested by faculty based on the needs of each semester. These resources are used to support educational affordability and student access to course materials.

Reserves General Information
Finding Course Reserves and Search Reading Lists:
- Go to the UTA Libraries Catalog.
- Select the “Course Reserves” tab, at the top left corner of the screen.
- Search by instructor’s name [first and/or last], course name and/or title. For example, NURS-5302, with hyphen no space, NURS, or 5302.
- After clicking on the title of the course you're searching for, you'll be taken to the course's reading list page. This page displays a list of materials available through the UTA Libraries. To access full details, make sure you're logged into the UTA Libraries website, using your netID and password, like signing into MyMAV.
- For each physical item, you'll see the loan period, availability, and location. Pay close attention, as loan periods are short and items may be located in different places. Be sure to bring your MAVID card to check out materials.
- E-reserves are indefinable by the "Full Text option" [may not be full text] in the availability section. This will be link requesting sign in before accessing resources. Sign in using your UTA email and password.
- A loan email, with the due date, will be sent at time of checkout. Return loan materials to the same location by the due date to avoid late or lost fees.
Accessing Physical Reserves
Physical Course Reserves are distributed across seven campus locations, either at the libraries' main service points or self-checkout machines [like vending machines for books]. Resource locations are assigned based on student use and needs. Check the Libraries' catalog page for each item's location, loan period, and current availability.

Each library branch’s primary service point has relevant course reserve materials. Below are the names, as they show up in the Libraries' catalog.
- Central Library Reserves
- Architecture and Fine Arts Library Reserves
- Science and Engineering Library Reserves
- The Basement, Games Lab [For these resources go to the Central Library, basement service point]
- Self-Checkout Machines
- Central Library Course Reserve self-checkout machine: General collection materials, located in the Central Library first floor, North side.
- West Campus Parking Garage, Course Reserves: (architecture and fine arts materials): Located at the Southeast corner of Park West Parking Garage.
- Science and Engineering Library SEL Course Reserves: Located outside the southeast corner of the Engineering Lab Building, by Niederman Hall.
Frequently Asked Questions about Physical Reserves
- What are physical reserves? High-demand course materials selected by instructors for short-term checkout to make them available to as many students as possible.
- How long can on-site items be checked out? Typically, 4 hours, 24 hours,3 days and 7 days, loan period based on needs of the resources.
- What are the fines for late returns? 2 cents per minute for items with 2-, 3-, and 24-hour loan periods.
- Do you have a textbook for my class on reserve? To find if your course material is available through the Libraries' collection search UTA Libraries Catalog.
- Can I renew on-site course reserve materials? No, they cannot be renewed.
- Can I recall a reserve item? No, they are first-come, first-served.
- Can I take on-site course reserve items out of the library? Yes, but since these are shorter loaned periods will need to be returned on time.

- What are E-Reserves? Materials that are available from the libraries through online access, added to course reading list so students can search it as a collection of materials needed for a specific class.
- How do I access E-Reserves? Use your UTA email and password, like logging into MyMav
- How do I find readings for my class? Search the UTA Libraries Catalog under “Course Reserves.”
- What if I can’t open an E-Reserve item? There are several possibilities:
- Some E-reserves are accessed through a 3rd party provider. Due to our user agreements there may be a limitation on how many people can access a resource at a single time. Also, there is often a difference between read online and the ability to download part of the resources. Please review the information on the provider's web page for details.
- It takes 5-7 days to process readings. Try checking the course later or contact us at coursereserves@uta.libanswers.com for the status.
- Try alternative internet browsers, as well as clearing cache and cookies.

- What do I do if the system doesn’t accept my UTA email and password? Contact the OIT Service Desk.
Reserve Guidelines for Faculty
Making A Course Reserve Request:
- To maintain an up-to date and relevant collection faculty need to submit a Faculty Reserves Request, every semester.
- Once a request is submitted the Course Reserve team will reach out in 48 working hours with next steps.
Available Resources for Reserves:
- Library Materials: To find available resources through the Libraries please search the UTA Libraries Catalog. Submit the request even if you see that the resource(s) are currently available on Course Reserves, as we are continually processing materials into and out of the collection based on needs.
- Suggest a Purchase: If you cannot find the resource you are searching for your class you can submit a suggest a purchase to request that the UTA Libraries purchase the material(s). As per the UT Arlington Course Textbook Collection Policy: Textbooks will not be purchased.
- Faculty Loaned Copies: Faculty and staff can temporally lend the UTA Libraries physical copies of resources to be loaned through the Course Reserve service. Before being added to the Course Reserve the lender will fill out the Faculty Reserves Request Form, under item ownership select "I physically own the item and can lend it to the UTA Libraries", then review and fill out the Course Reserve Lending Agreement section.
Frequently Asked Questions about Reserve Guidelines for Faculty
- How do I request Course Reserve services? Complete the Faculty Reserves Request Form to set the location and loan period for physical items, submit faculty-loaned copies, and request digitized resources. Note: Each form accommodates up to 4 resource requests, but you can submit multiple forms for additional resources.
- How long will it take to process my request? The course reserve team will follow up within 48 working hours after submission with next steps. Resource processing typically takes 7 business days. Due to the high volume of requests at the start of the semester, please submit your request at least 2 weeks before classes begin.
- What loan periods are available for Physical Reserves? 4 hours [used only at library branches], 24 hours, 3 days or 7 days.
- May I place my own personal copies of books or DVDs on Reserves? The UTA Libraries are not responsible for any damages or loss of materials loaned to the library. Additionally, the lender must consent to any modifications made for processing and use.
- Will my Reserves be removed at the end of the semester? We regularly evaluate collections and remove items during processing. To ensure resources stay on Reserve, submit a Faculty Reserves Request Form . Requests are valid for one semester only. Notify staff before the semester ends if items need to remain on Reserve.
- Can I leave photocopies or course packs to be placed on reserve? No, according to the UTA Libraries' Course Reserve Policy, photocopies, course packs or consumable items, not allowed on reserve.
