FabLab Virtual Services

FabLab Alternate Consultation Experience (F.A.C.E.)

The UTA FabLab is a hands-on experiential learning space, open to learners from any discipline or experience level. Although we are here to assist you in-person, we also offer the option to schedule a virtual consultation (F.A.C.E.) to discuss your project before visiting the lab to use the equipment.

During the consultation, our staff will meet with you virtually to discuss your project and help with Design Thinking, Design Software Assistance, or File Preparation for Digital Fabrication. You can then visit the lab to fabricate your design! Please see the tabs below for more information.

To schedule an appointment, fill out a form by following the Request Appointment link below!

Do you have an idea for a project but don’t know where to start? Schedule a consultation to discuss the project scope, your concept, design software options, fabrication options, materials, and assembly.

*Note* Design Thinking is an iterative process focused on problem-solving and involves multiple steps. Prototyping/testing is an integral part of the process. Please plan accordingly to give yourself enough time to complete your project.

Do you need software help finalizing your design? We will assist you as best we can with various design software.

*Note* We are more familiar with some programs than others, but will do our best to help.

  • Adobe Illustrator
  • TinkerCAD
  • Solidworks

Are you interested in using the CNC Plasma Cutter or CNC ShopBot for your project? During the consultation, we will review your design and discuss how best to prepare your file before visiting the lab to use the equipment.

*Note* All equipment in the Shop Room (including the CNC Plasma Cutter and CNC ShopBot) require training to operate them. Please plan accordingly to receive training during our Open Shop Hours.

Step One: Complete the appointment form below. This will help us know how we can help you and when it is most convenient for you.

Step Two: Download or log into Microsoft Teams from a desktop or laptop. This is available through your Office 365 student account. Our virtual meeting will take place utilizing Teams. Make sure you are able to open your needed design software from the computer you are using for the session.

Step Three: A team member from the FabLab will be in touch with you soon to assist in your design process.

Please view our location and hours to see when FabLab staff are available for virtual consultations and to facilitate the pick-up of your fabricated items!
