Finding Textbooks

According to our Interlibrary Loan policy, we will not borrow textbooks and related course materials that are available from the UTA Bookstore or another vendor. The following links are for the convenience of our users. These websites are not managed or controlled by UTA Libraries, nor do we endorse, control, or take responsibility for the content or information on any external website.

Students can also search by cost of course materials in the schedule of classes. See the Find OER Courses guide to find courses in MyMav that use free or low-cost educational resources in place of high-cost commercial textbooks, access codes, and bundles.

Charges and Fees

Ordering Charges

Sometimes there is a fee associated with filling an interlibrary loan request. There is a limit on how much UTA Libraries will pay per request based on the requester’s status:

*Rush fees are charged back to the patron’s UTA account, which covers UTA staff services. If there is a rush fee assessed by the lending library, that charge will also be passed on to the patron, as well as any express shipping charges. You will be notified if the price exceeds the amount we can pay and asked if you wish to cover the charges over the limit. You will be given a week to respond after which we’ll cancel the request.

Additional Fines and Fees

  • Overdue Fines/Block for Non-Return. We don’t charge overdue fines for ILL materials, but patrons are expected to honor their due dates. Five email notices will be sent to the borrower’s UTA email address: 7 days before the due date, on the due date, 6 days after the due date, 13 days after, and 20 days after. ILL privileges will be blocked when the 3rd notice is sent.
  • Service Fees. There is a $35 processing fee for each item not returned in addition to the lending library fees and overdue fees. If materials are returned in good condition within six months of billing and are approved by the lending library, users are credited for the replacement cost and the processing fee. Users are still responsible for paying any remaining fees.
  • Lost or Damaged Materials. Lost or damaged items are subject to repair or replacement fees as assessed by the lending institution. Damage includes but is not limited to: writing in or on the material, highlighting, bending or tearing pages, breakage, heat or liquid damage.
  • Replacement Charges. When an ILL item becomes 25 days overdue (or sooner at the end of the semester), the patron will be charged for the replacement of the material. While waiting for an invoice from the lending institution, the initial charge posted to the users account may be as high as $200. When the actual fee amount is received, it will be adjusted on the patron’s UTA account.
  • Failure to Pay. Charges unpaid within 30 days will result in loss of Interlibrary borrowing privileges and may result in inability to register for classes, prevention of graduation, and loss of library services. Please contact the Interlibrary Loan office for reinstatement of borrowing privileges.
