The ongoing renovations and upgrades to the Life Sciences Building will impact the UTA Central Library's operations.

Construction work from Friday, May 17, through Saturday, May 18, will cause the Central Library to close. Normal operations will resume Sunday, May 19.

Howard Schaffer, Maintenance Coordinator, stated the closure is due to work being done on the domestic hot and cold-water line that supports the Life Sciences Building, the Central Library and University Hall.

"The work will begin at 8 a.m. Friday, May 17 and last approximately until 5 p.m. Saturday, May 18," Howard said. "Restrooms in the buildings will not be available and the construction work will affect the building's fire sprinkler lines. No other building utilities will be affected by this outage."

According to UTA's website, the renovation and addition to the Life Sciences building, which opened in 1970, will provide space for research labs, teaching labs, and classrooms, and ample student engagement spaces throughout the building.

The $180 million project will also address all deferred maintenance and upgrades to the mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and life safety systems. The construction runs from December 2023 through November 2027.

Howard reminds people to keep their eyes open for signs about the work taking place that might direct them to take an alternate route on campus away from the construction.

The UTA Central Library will close at 2 a.m. Thursday, May 16. It will reopen at 9 a.m. on Sunday, May 19.

During the closure, online services will remain available for the Libraries' patrons.
