Zhang has worked for UTA Libraries for more than 17 years and offers a diverse portfolio of skills and knowledge in the areas of technology, acquisitions, and access.

“In a time when many aspects of life are uncertain, it is comforting to know who you can count on—and Peter is definitely one of those people,” said Rebecca Bichel, dean of UTA Libraries. “Peter embodies reliability and leadership and brings a wealth of expertise to the admin suite. We are lucky to have him on board.”

Before his promotion, Zhang worked for 11 years as a Metadata Librarian. He assumed the role of Department Head for Access & Discovery in 2013.

Zhang says this new position plays to his strengths, which complement the existing personalities in Libraries administration.

“I am a ‘doer’ who follows through,” Zhang said. “This promotion gives me more opportunities to foster collaborations and reduce silos.”

As Associate University Librarian of Discovery and Technology, Zhang will be responsible for Library Systems and Technology, Acquisitions, Metadata Services, Interlibrary Loan, and Stacks Management.

While he’s coming into the role in period of change, Zhang is excited about the possibilities and has big goals for the future.

“I am most excited about taking a more visible role in advocating for innovation,” Zhang said. “My goal is to advance our infrastructure and increase capacities in the areas of Discovery and Technology to help advance the Libraries’ strategic goals and mission.”
