UT-Arlington Library's Special Collections serves as the repository for one of the most comprehensive archives relating to the U.S.-Mexico War. The archive includes fifty manuscript collections relating to the conflict, such as diaries, letters, and journals of U.S. soldiers serving in Mexico. Of equal historical significance is the Library's collection of 536 rare Mexican broadsides and handbills produced during the war years.
A Continent Divided is committed to making these materials accessible to a wide audience. Since the project began in 2010, staff members at UT Arlington's Center for Greater Southwestern Studies have worked to digitize, transcribe, and when necessary translate these materials. This is a highly labor intensive and time-consuming process. To date, six manuscript collections have been transcribed, while almost 10% of the Mexican broadsides/handbills collection has been translated into English.
Your donation will enable us to continue putting more materials about the U.S.-Mexico War online. Since overhead costs are borne by the College of Liberal Arts and the Library, all donations will go directly to the costs of digitization, transcription and translation.
