Kearny's Route
As part of its strategy to gain control of Mexico's northern provinces, the War Department ordered Colonel Stephen Watts Kearny to seize New Mexico. He then received new orders from Washington, promoting him to the rank of brigadier general and instructing him to aid in the conquest of California.
Doniphan's March
From June 1846 to June 1847 Colonel Alexander W. Doniphan led his regiment of Missouri volunteers on a 5,500-mile trek from Fort Leavenworth, Kansas to Santa Fe, New Mexico, then south to El Paso and Chihuahua, and eventually to Matamoros, before returning to Missouri.
Francis Woodbridge's Route from Ohio to Mexico City
At the outbreak of the U.S.-Mexico War Francis Woodbridge was assigned to General Scott's command, and participated in many of the most famous engagements of the war, including the Siege of Vera Cruz, the Battle of Cerro Gordo, the Battles of Churubusco and Molina del Rey, the storming of Chapultepec, and the capture of Mexico City.
