The Mexican War : A discourse delivered on the annual fast, 1847

A sermon delivered on the Annual Fast Day [April 15] by Milton P. Braman, Pastor of the First Church of the Orthodox Congregational Society in the North Parish of Danvers, Massachusetts, warning against the social, economic, religious, and political instability that will be the consequences of further acquisitions of Mexican territory. Braman offers an indictment of Manifest Destiny, insisting that the United States already has more land than it needs. In addition, Braman warns of the dangers of extending the powers of the executive branch and the military during times of war.
