Covenant breaking, and its consequences : or the present posture of our national affairs, in connection with the Mexican war: embodying the substance of two discourses, preached in Hamilton, Ohio, on the 4th and 11th of July, 1847

Discourse 1- "The Broken Covenant"
Thomas compares the goodness of Christian servitude to the evils of slavery, and points to the irony of a people who, in search of freedom for themselves, have enslaved others.
Discourse II- "The Consequences of Covenant-Breaking"
Thomas warns his congregation that the United States must renounce war and slavery or suffer divine retribution. Thomas provides an overview of the history of slavery in America, both in the United States and Mexico, with particular attention to the causes of Texas's independence and annexation.
