Map of a tour from Independence to Santa Fe, Chihuahua, Monterrey and Matamoros

Wislizenus' map details his route from Missouri with the Santa Fe/ Chihuahua traders and his extended tour of northern Mexico with the expedition of Colonel Alexander Doniphan and their subsequent return to St. Louis. By way of reference Wislizenus traces the "old Spanish military road from Santa Fe to San Antonio," the routes of a caravan of traders from Arkansas to Chihuahua in 1840, trader/explorer Josiah Gregg's route from Santa Fe to Van Buren, Arkansas, in 1840, the Texan expedition to Santa Fe in 1841, and General John E. Wool's route into Mexico from San Antonio in 1846. Wislizenus' map is at a scale of 50 miles to one inch and appeared in Senate Misc. doc. No. 26.
