Mapa de los Estados Unidos de Mejico : segun lo organizado y definido por las Varias Actas del Congreso de dicha Republica y construido por las mejores Autoridades

Translated Title: Map of the United States of Mexico: as organized and defined by various acts of the Congress of that Republic and constructed according to the best authorities

Publishers White, Gallaher and White of New York issued this Spanish-language map, engraved by Vistus Balch and Samuel Stiles, on May 21, 1828 to satisfy the need at that time for a map of the newly independent Republic of Mexico. A few days earlier the U.S. Senate had ratified an agreement with Mexico that basically recognized the earlier boundary that had existed between the U.S. and Spain. The map simply copied and translated into Spanish Henry S. Tanner's Map of the United States of Mexico, which in turn was based on the southwest portion of Tanner's Map of North America of 1822. White, Gallaher, and White's map was issued again sixteen years later, in 1844, to coincide with growing interest in Texas annexation. In 1845, New York publisher John Disturnell bought the plates for this map and reissued it beginning the next year with his own name on it. Disturnell's map was later used in the negotiations for the Treaty of Guadalupe-Hidalgo, ending the U.S. War with Mexico.
