General Arista

An important Mexican military and political figure, Major General Mariano Arista did not recognize Texas' independence. He was serving as the Mexican commander on the lower Rio Grande in 1845 as the troubles with the United States intensified. From April 4, 1846 until defeated at the Battles of Palo Alto and Resaca de la Palma, he commanded the Army of the North. This lithograph was produced by Placido Blanco in Mexico City in 1848.
