Seat of War & Battles : Incidents in the Military Life of General Taylor

A portrait, probably based upon a daguerreotype of General Taylor, accompanied by a brief description of the incidents in his military life, from the large-scale chromolithographed broadside titled "The Seat of War and Battles." Taylor was made first lieutenant in the United States army at the age of 18, was promoted to Captain in 1812, progressed through the ranks of major and colonel in 1832, and was promoted to brigadier general after the Florida war of 1837. In 1845 Taylor was ordered to Texas and commanded the "Army of Occupation" and played a major role in the battle of Palo Alto and battle of Resaca de la Palma, the capturing of Matamoras, the battle of Monterey and the Battle of Buena Vista. He was appointed to Major General in 1846.
