The Twelve Months Volunteer : Battle Ground of Cerro Gordo

A printed plan of the battle ground of Cerro Gordo. Cerro Gordo and Telegrafo are located at the top of the map above the National Road, hills of batteries, and a deep ravine. The map is annotated with the routes taken by Generals Shields, Pillows, and Twiggs on April 17, 1847 as well as the locations of the American and Mexican troops. American headquarters were stationed to the right of the bridge at Plan del Rio on the right-hand side while the Mexican Headquarters were stationed at the far left-hand side at the furthest end of the National Road. Furber also indicated the locations of Mexican batteries and troops under Generals Vasques, La Vega Pinon, Canalizo as well as the locations of American batteries and troops under Generals Scott, Patterson, Harney, Shields, Worth, Pillow and Riley. [This is a page from the book "The Twelve Months Volunteer, or Journal of a Private in the Tennessee Regiment of Cavalry, in the Campaign in Mexico, 1846-7..." by author and artist George C. Furber, who compiled notes and sketches from first-hand observations on site or from additional sources. Furber's text references this plan in his description of the Battle of Cerro Gordo on pages 579-600]
