The War Between the United States and Mexico Illustrated: Bombardment of Vera Cruz

A chromolithograph depicting the Bombardment of Vera Cruz from the perspective of a naval battery (on land). American naval officers (dressed in a variety of blue uniforms that denote their ranks) are shown in the foreground behind a fortification barrier, with an American flag waving to the right. They are firing cannon rounds at the city of Vera Cruz in the distance. Smoke from the blasts fills the scene in the center of the print while puffs of smoke also rise from the city.
